Who Needs
Hip Replacement?

If non-surgical treatments like medications, physical therapy, and walking supports are no longer helpful, hip replacement is the most definitive solution.

Hip replacement surgery is considered when joint damage is so severe that it limits your daily life, and non-surgical treatments (like medications, physiotherapy, and walking aids) no longer help.

  • Hip AVN (Avascular Necrosis) - common in Bangalore due to post-COVID steroid use and alcohol.
  • Osteoarthritis (wear and tear of the joint).
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis and Ankylosing Spondylitis.
  • Pelviacetabular fractures or hip fractures in the elderly.

Patients frequently visit Dr. Lingaraju A.P for complex primary hip replacements, AVN treatments, and revision surgeries.

Types of Hip Replacement
& Procedures

Primary Total Hip

The ball and socket are both replaced. This is the standard procedure for severe osteoarthritis and late-stage AVN. We focus on uncemented, ceramic-on-ceramic implants for younger patients to ensure maximum longevity.

Revision Total Hip

Performed for loosened, infected, or dislocated hip implants. Requires massive bone grafts, and specialized augments.

AVN Treatments

Early Stage 1-2 Avascular Necrosis managed with core decompression to save the natural joint.

Pelviacetabular Fixation

High-energy trauma and road traffic accidents. Fixation of the acetabulum and pelvis to preserve the hip joint anatomy.

Recovery Timeline

Day 0-1

Sit on edge of bed, stand with walker, ankle pumping, knee bending. Epidural for pain control.

Day 2-3

Walk with walker, climb stairs. Discharge from hospital (Sukruthi / Manipal Jayanagar) when stable.

Week 1-2

Walker walking at home. Suture removal on Day 14. Physiotherapy for abductor strengthening.

Week 3-6

Transition to walking stick. Normal walk by 6 weeks. Drive after 6-8 weeks with doctor clearance.

Month 3-6

Walk without support, return to active life. Precautions maintained for 6 months.
